Q: What is ear microsuction?
A: Ear microsuction is a safe and effective method of ear wax removal that involves using a high-definition video otoscope to directly visualize the ear wax prior to and during removal. A low-pressure suction machine is used to gently remove the wax.
Q: Who can benefit from ear microsuction?
A: Anyone who is experiencing symptoms caused by excessive ear wax build-up, such as hearing loss, tinnitus, ear pain, dizziness, or ear infections, can benefit from ear microsuction. It can also be used to remove foreign bodies that may be lodged in the ear canal.
Q: How long does the procedure take?
A: The procedure typically lasts between 30-45 minutes, but the exact duration will depend on the amount and type of wax present.
Q: What is Microsuction isn’t required during the appointment?
A: Sometimes people are misdiagnosed with ear wax build up or the wax clears itself prior to the appointment. If it transpires during the assessment that Microsuction isn’t required, you will only be charged a consultation fee of £30.
Q: Ear microsuction vs. other ear wax removal methods?
A: Ear microsuction has several advantages over other methods, such as ear irrigation or ear syringing. Microsuction allows for direct visualization of the ear wax during removal, which makes the procedure safer and more comfortable. Also, there is no need to apply ear drops for weeks before an appointment, and no water is being forced or flushed into the ear canal as would happen with irrigation or syringing.
Q: Are there any precautions I should take before or after the procedure?
A: Before the procedure, it is recommended to use olive oil ear drops for 1-2 days before the appointment to soften the wax. After the procedure, it is recommended to avoid water in the ear for 24 hours
